Race 2: IKF Region 6 Road Race Gold Cup (PIR)

My first race of the season, and my first road race! Woke up at 5 in the morning to go over my checklist, wake up the kids and take off for the track. Got to the track at 6:30a.m, hoping that the concession stand had breakfast. Turns out that the concession stand wasn't open all day.

I had pre-registered for the race, so I didn't have to stand in line for hours like many others did. I walked up to the front of the line and picked up my passes and the transponder that I had ordered.

I had no major issues during practice. One of the other competitors helped me out with an issue with my Digatron gauge... It was dividing by 13 instead of 2 when reporting RPMs. I wasn't hitting my rev-limiter, so I adjusted my gearing. I found out later that you don't hit max RPM unless you are drafting the rest of the pack.

For the race, you start in the order you registered. Since I was a newbie, I had to start at the back, but I was in front of all the other newbies, since I pre-registered. I had a pretty good start. Got past Dave Schrock and a couple of others on the first lap. I was doing pretty good until lap 6 when I screwed up the entry to the chicane, and let the pack get away from me. Since you go slower when not in the draft, the pack got away from me, and I never caught up. I had a couple of battles with other drivers, but for the most part, I was alone for the remainder of the 1/2 hour race. I finished 10th overall (out of 15), but finished 5th out of the 8 in my class. (we were running with the WF Mediums, WF juniors, and a couple of KT-100s).

All in all, it was a better result then I expected!
