Took my kart to the Mac Track for my 4th practice session. My first time in the rain. I took to the track with a dry setup and tires just for the experience. It felt like driving on ice. There was almost no traction and my steering input seemed to have no effect.

Took my kart to the MAC track for the first practice session of the year. After my first session on the track, I found that I had a major oil leak. With the help of one of the other members, we determined that it was a broken gasket on the side cover. After replacing the gasket, there were no oil problems for the rest of the day.

Bought a set of Douglas rear wheels and mounted a set of rain tires. Mounting tires is getting easier for me.. Took about 15 minutes to unmount and mount a complete set of tires. The first time I did this, it took about 4 hours and left me covered in sweat and out of breath. Also purchased a bead breaker and a Briggs oil cap removal tool, and a spare E-clip for the carb needle.

| Track Closed - Karting Blog |

Track is closed for practice today for the first of the Winter Series due to rain. They race rain or shine, but since this is not a points series, they don't want to be miserable for two days straight, so they won't hold the practice session. I was planning that this would be my third practice session.

I took the day off of work for this Friday practice session. Because of this, I wasn't able to find anyone to help me. So I went to the track by myself.

I had asked a neighbor kid, Zach Johnson, if he wanted to be my pit crew for my first practice session. He accepted. We loaded up the kart and tools in the trailer and took off for the Mac Track at 10 in the morning. When we arrived, we pitched the tent and set out all the tools on the table. We helped Pops set up the scales at the scalehouse. I took the kart to the scale and weighed it and me with all my gear on. With no ballast, we hit 390 lbs, the exact weight for the WF Heavy class. It was very hot... around 100 deg.

John Arscott picked up my kart on July 15 for practice for the 2006 4-Cycle Grand Nationals. The original plan was for his son to use my engine for practice and borrow another, more race-proven engine for the race. After doing laps on both engines, they found mine to be the faster one, and decided to stay with mine. They ended up using one of Michal Schorn's Animals and my Briggs WF.

| 1st Annual Night Race - Karting Blog |

On Friday, June 30th, I went to the Mac Track to watch the practice session for the Night Race that would be run in the reverse direction. There were a couple of things I had still yet to purchase on my kart, so I wasn't ready to bring my kart to the track for the first time. Chris Hatch, the Race Director had asked me if I wanted to man the flag station at Turn 3 for the night race on Saturday. I accepted. The first night race at this track was very successful and a very exciting event. After the race, I was approached by John Arscott, the father of Phillip Arscott, the former driver of my kart. He wanted to enter his son in the 4-Cycle Grand Nationals coming up at the Mac Track. He didn't have a 4-cycle package and wanted to rent mine.

I have been following the karting scene since 2001, attending all local and regional races and subscribing to National Kart News as well. I was bit by the bug when a friend of a friend invited me to one of his practice sessions at the Blue Max Kart Club. I did a few on-track sessions and was hooked. I wasn't able to purchase a setup until February, 2006. I purchased the chassis from Competition Motors Corporation (CMC). By that time, after all those years of watching and waiting, I knew what I wanted and what was involved.
